State Funding In Limbo For Now

Posted by cateach on December 3, 2008

A few weeks ago, Teacher Center directors were informed that Governor Patterson had proposed cutting this year’s TC grants by 37.5%.  Since we’ve used up a large part of our grant already, we decided to put all pending applications on hold until we found out what any final number would be. We still don’t know, but from what I hear, this year’s grant will not be changed by much, but next year’s grant numbers are in big trouble.  Here’s a link to Governor Paterson’s open letter to school superintendents: http://www.state.ny.us/governor/press/press_1125082.html This letter has more to do with foundation aid as opposed to grants, so we could still be on the chopping block.

I have informed all new grant applicants to hang in there until I know what’s going on. I will let everyone know once a final decision has been made. I’m sorry for any inconvenience.
